As power electronics continue to penetrate the power system at an accelerating pace, the limitations of conventional grid-following (GFL) technologies on the generation side are becoming increasingly evident.
With limited inherent inertia and damping, GFL-based resources can be more vulnerable to wideband oscillations—from low-frequency oscillations and sub-synchronous oscillations (SSO) to high-frequency resonance—creating new challenges for power system stability, particularly in weak-grid and low-inertia conditions.
To address these challenges, DoGo Power has developed a grid-forming solution for the generation side, built around three core capabilities: power oscillation damping, ultra-fast grid support and strong virtual inertia.
- Power Oscillation Damping
Real-time monitoring of grid oscillation conditions enables targeted active positive damping across an ultra-wide frequency range of 0.2–2,500 Hz wideband oscillation damping . Even under extremely weak-grid conditions, renewable energy assets can maintain a stable grid connection.
This enhances the stability margin of renewable energy assets and supports reliable operation even under extremely weak-grid conditions.
- Rapid Voltage Establishment within 5 ms
With real-time monitoring of grid voltage and frequency dynamics, the system can respond within 5 ms, rapidly injecting or absorbing current to provide fast voltage and frequency support. Under severe grid disturbances or grid outages, the system can initiate rapid voltage establishment within 5 ms, supporting fast local grid restoration and enhancing system resilience.
- Inertia Response | Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) Technology
Through advanced Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control, the system provides configurable virtual inertia and frequency support, with a virtual inertia time constant of up to 20 s.
By emulating the dynamic characteristics of synchronous generators, the solution strengthens frequency stability and transient response, enabling renewable energy systems to move beyond conventional grid following—from “passive grid following” to “active grid forming”.
From power fluctuation mitigation to active poweroscillation damping, DoGo Power is leveraging grid-forming technology to enable renewable energy resources to connect stronger, operate more stably, and remain resilient in increasingly weak and low-inertia grids.
